Where does the weather data come from?
All weather data comes directly from the National Weather Service (NWS) API. Great Lakes water temperature and ice coverage data comes from NOAA's Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL).
How often does the data refresh?
Weather data refreshes automatically based on your settings (default is every 5 minutes). Radar imagery updates as new scans become available from NEXRAD stations.
What radar stations does RainBot use?
RainBot uses all four Michigan NEXRAD stations: DTX (Detroit/Pontiac), GRR (Grand Rapids), APX (Gaylord), and MQT (Marquette) for complete statewide coverage.
How do community weather reports work?
You can submit reports for hail, flooding, wind damage, power outages, funnel clouds, heavy rain, icy roads, and lightning. Reports are anonymous and expire after 2 hours. Other users can confirm your sightings.
How much does RainBot cost?
RainBot is free during the beta. After launch, it will be a one-time $2.99 purchase on the App Store — no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no ads. Pay once, own it forever, and get every update going forward.
